Trinity Cathedral Vestry
In the Episcopal Church, the Vestry is the governing board of the parish. It is elected by the congregation at the Annual Meeting and conducts the secular business for the Cathedral. The Dean is an ex officio member of the Vestry. The leaders of the Vestry are the Senior and Junior Wardens. At Trinity, the Senior Warden is an advisor to the Dean and chairs the Vestry meetings; the Junior Warden is responsible for our buildings and grounds. In addition, Trinity have a Treasurer who oversees the budget and finances for the Cathedral.
Clifford Droke, Senior Warden
Clifford Droke and his wife, Diane Pinney, came into Trinity’s parish life through the Center for Spiritual Development, including SG21 and pilgrimages to Turkey and Ireland. Clif has chaired the Center Commission and represents it on the Cathedral Finance Committee. He has also served on three Vestry-created task forces on financial planning and on the future of the Center. Prior to retirement, Clif served as a United Methodist pastor, district superintendent and conference council on ministries director in Northern California and Nevada before being elected general secretary and treasure of the General Council on Finance and Administration of the United Methodist Church. He also served as general secretary and chief financial officer of the National Council of Churches.
Scott Cress, Junior Warden
Scott Cress has attended Trinity for over 40 years. Scott and his wife Dana attend the 8:00 service regularly. Their daughters were baptized and confirmed at Trinity, and one of them was married here in 2000. Dana has been a lifetime member of Trinity, and her parents were married at Trinity in 1942. Scott is the owner and president of W. H. Cress Company, a third generation family business that distributes and installs commercial building products. Business constraints have not afforded Scott the time to be actively involved in Trinity commissions and committees in the past, but he feels that the time has come to do so.
Vestry Members
Rich Bracken
Rich Bracken and his wife Barbara have attended Trinity since 2000. Rich retired from Sears Roebuck and Co., which gave him 27 years of merchandising and operations management at store and regional levels. Rich has been very active at Trinity, having served on the Stewardship Committee, Chair of the Newcomer Program, a member of the Vestry, Co-Chair of the Communications Committee, and a member of the Safety Committee. Rich also is a member of the Communications Committee for the Diocese of Oregon.
Charyl Cathey
Charyl Cathey has been a member of Trinity for 11 years. Charyl just retired from serving as Head of the Middle School at Oregon Episcopal School for 21 years. She has over 40 years of experience in independent schools, serving as both a teacher and an administrator, and has served on national committees for service learning, gender equity, and mentoring relationships as well as directing a regional beginning teachers' institute for 19 years. At Trinity, Charyl has been Co-Chair of the Thanksgiving Dinner, served on the Youth Commission, taught Sunday School, served on the Outreach Commission, co-lead the Honduras Scholarship campaign, served on the Clearness Committee, served on the Search Committee for the Family Ministries Priest, and has been a Lector. Charyl went on the Honduras Mission trip in 2007 and is a member of the Companion Diocese Committee. Charyl and her husband Joe are avid travelers.
Ross Cornelius
Ross Cornelius has been a member of Trinity Cathedral since 1990. He has taught Sunday School and served on the Youth Commission, where he helped develop and plan the Sauce-Off funding raising event for the Trinity youth program. Ross participated in the youth mission to the Blackfoot Indian Tribe Montana in 2006, and the Honduras mission 2009. He is on the leadership planning team for the Honduras 2010. Ross also served on the Trinity Building and Grounds Committee in 2005. Ross works for a large real estate management and development firm, and is active in the development and preservation of affordable housing in the region. Previously he worked for the Portland Development Commission and the State of Oregon. He holds a civil engineering degree and MBA. His wife JoAnn Cornelius serves on the Trinity Flower Guild. His daughter Emily participated in the Trinity youth program and Honduras mission, and now attends Whitman College.
Priscilla Cowell
Priscilla Cowell and her husband Nick have been members of Trinity for 12 years. She and her husband lived for 17 years in Chile, Samoa, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nepal, and Namibia, where Priscilla developed literacy curriculum and trained teachers with USAID and Ford Foundation projects. She also served as a learning specialist at Catlin Gabel School. Priscilla is now retired. At Trinity, Priscilla serves as Co-Chair of the Outreach Commission, is a member of the Governance Committee, is a member of the Annual Giving Campaign Committee, and serves as a LEM. Priscilla went on the first Outreach trip to Honduras and was a member of the Search Committee for the Outreach Priest.
Mary Cramer
Mary M. Cramer transferred her membership to Trinity three years ago. At that time she was President of the diocesan Standing Committee. Joining Trinity she became a Pantry volunteer and now serves as one of the “Wednesday cooks.” She is also a member of Cornerstone Community. Most recently she served as Co-Chair of the Search Committee for the 10th Bishop of Oregon. Prior to moving to Portland, Mary was a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria, Manzanita where she served on the BAC, two years as Sr. Warden and then as chair of the Building Committee. Mary came to Oregon to teach at Oregon State University. During her tenure there she married and made a career change to public relations, marketing and advertising. Her civic activities include serving on the boards of the Portland Ballet Company, Planned Parenthood and City Club of Portland. She retired from Southwest Washington Medical Center where she was Public Relations Manager.
Dee Ellen Grubbs
Dee and her husband, Michael, joined the Trinity parish in 2003 when they moved to the greater Portland area. Dee is an attorney practicing in Vancouver, WA. Dee has served on the Alter Guild and the Food Pantry. She and Mike have been active in Sojourners and are in their fourth year of EFM. In addition Dee is a member of the Cornerstone community. In 2007, Dee was chairperson of the annual giving campaign.
Lee Hascall
Lee and her husband, Norm, have been members of the Trinity parish since 1980. During that time she has been active in the Alter Guild, chaired the Church Bazaar and Rummage Sale in 1992 and 1993 and worked on that activity over many other years. She led the Adult Fellowship from its inception in 1989 providing a weekly lunch and entertainment for elders in the neighborhood. She has been active in the Flower Guild and the Arts Association since their beginnings and remains active in Martha’s Guild. Lee was also one of those talented creators of our kneelers.
Jay Holtz
Jay Holtz has attended Trinity for his entire life. He was baptized at Trinity, attended Sunday School, was confirmed at Trinity, and served as an acolyte. Jay has taught in the high school Sunday School program, has participated in the Trinity mission trips to Honduras during each of the past two summers, and is assisting with the effort to coordinate Trinity's commitment to Nuevo San Jose. Jay is a civil engineer. He worked for a large consulting firm for 13 years before joining a startup company that developed, manufactured, and marketed a stormwater treatment system. After that company was sold, Jay has been an independent consulting engineer, specializing in water resources engineering. Jay's wife Katherine and their daughters Liza and Cecily are also very involved in the Trinity community.
David Munro
Dave Munro has attended Trinity since childhood. He was baptized, attended Sunday School, and was confirmed at Trinity. His wife, Anne, also was confirmed at Trinity. Their daughters, Laurie and Sally, were baptized, attended Sunday School, and were confirmed at Trinity, and both of them were married at Trinity. Dave is an attorney and practices in Portland. During a 16-year period beginning in 1975, he served as a member of the Trinity Vestry for 12 years, including one year as Junior Warden and nine years as Senior Warden. He also has served as a delegate to several Diocesan Conventions and as a member of several Trinity committees, including the Endowment Committee, the Planned Giving Committee, and the Search Committee involved in the search for a new Dean in 2003. Dave's nonprofit volunteer activities outside of Trinity have included service as a board member and committee member at Oregon Episcopal School, the American Red Cross, Loaves & Fishes Centers, and the Salvation Army.
Jerry Petty
Jerry Petty has attended Trinity for 10 years, having moved here from Washington D.C. with his partner David Spencer in 1998. Jerry is a human resources manager, who has worked both in the private and public sectors. At Trinity Jerry has taught in the Church School for 6 years, serves on the Personnel Committee, and participates in Sojourners groups. Outside of Trinity Jerry serves as a board member of both the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Ladd's Addition Gardens, and actively participates in the Abernethy Elementary School PTA.
