Trinity Cathedral Vestry

In the Episcopal Church, the Vestry is the governing board of the parish. It is elected by the congregation at the Annual Meeting and conducts the secular business for the Cathedral. The Dean is an ex officio member of the Vestry. The leaders of the Vestry are the Senior and Junior Wardens. At Trinity, the Senior Warden is an advisor to the Dean and chairs the Vestry meetings; the Junior Warden is responsible for our buildings and grounds. In addition, Trinity have a Treasurer who oversees the budget and finances for the Cathedral.

 

PettyJerry Petty, Senior Warden

Jerry Petty has attended Trinity for 10 years, having moved here from Washington D.C. with his partner David Spencer in 1998. Jerry is a human resources manager, who has worked both in the private and public sectors. At Trinity Jerry has taught in the Church School for 6 years, serves on the Personnel Committee, and participates in Sojourners groups. Outside of Trinity Jerry serves as a board member of both the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Ladd's Addition Gardens, and actively participates in the Abernethy Elementary School PTA.

 

 

Tom_RichardsTom Richards, Junior Warden

Tom Richards has attended Trinity since 1997.  He and his wife Daneal were married at Trinity in 2009.  Tom has served Trinity as an usher (2005-2011), a member the Dean’s Cup golf tournament (2006-2011), founder of the Friends of the Building (2010), and co-chair for Stewardship (2011).  Tom’s focus of interest at Trinity centers on maintaining and improving the buildings and grounds.  In 2003 Tom founded Technical Sales Solutions, a company that recycles electron and ion microscopes worldwide. Together Tom and Daneal have five grown children and two grandchildren.

CressKay Bennett

Kay Bennett came to Trinity through the Center for Spiritual Development. She joined Trinity in 2005. She is a "cradle Episcopalian" from Northern Arizona. At Trinity, Kay is a member of Newcomer's Committee, Greetors,co chair of AFFIRM, past chair of Lake Oswego/West Linn Trinity Neighbors program and delegate to Doicesan Convention. Kay served as facilitator for the Walkabout for Bishop candidates in 2009 and as lay Convocation Representative to Diocesan Nominating Committee for Convention 2010. She completed EFM in 2010. Now retired, in her professional life Kay was a Psychologist, Clinical Director of an Employee Assistance Program, Director of a Chemical Dependency program, and owner of a Consulting Firm. She has served on the Social Issues Committee for the Oregon Psychological Association, Health Oriented Professionals for Equality, and other professional and non profit boards.

 

CappsDoug Capps

Doug Capps has attended Trinity intermittently for more than three decades, drawn by its music program.  Doug and his wife Liz attended Catechesis classes in 2003 and became members that year.  Doug has served on the Center for Spiritual Development Commission, several Vestry-commissioned task forces and planning committees, and supports Liz with her involvement with youth at Trinity.  He graduated from Portland State University, earned a master’s degree from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, a Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern School o Law, and is a member of the Oregon State Bar.  Professional life has included executive level positions in City, regional, and state government.  Doug served on the Portland School Board and in leadership positions on several non-profit boards dedicated to improving Portland’s community and civic life. 

 

CorneliusRoss Cornelius

Ross Cornelius has been a member of Trinity Cathedral since 1990.  He has taught Sunday School and served on the Youth Commission, where he helped develop and plan the Sauce-Off funding raising event for the Trinity youth program.  Ross participated in the youth mission to the Blackfoot Indian Tribe Montana in 2006, and the Honduras mission 2009.  He is on the leadership planning team for the Honduras 2010.  Ross also served on the Trinity Building and Grounds Committee in 2005.  Ross works for a large real estate management and development firm, and is active in the development and preservation of affordable housing in the region.  Previously he worked for the Portland Development Commission and the State of Oregon.  He holds a civil engineering degree and MBA.  His wife JoAnn Cornelius serves on the Trinity Flower Guild.  His daughter Emily participated in the Trinity youth program and Honduras mission, and now attends Whitman College.

 

GordonMarilynn Gordon

Marilynn Gordon retired from careers in education, business, and law to the Portland area ten years ago with her husband, Ros Gordon, a retired Presbyterian minister. They were soon drawn into the life of Trinity, where they appreciate the rich liturgical life, opportunities for learning, and the open and welcoming community.  Since coming to Trinity Marilynn has been a member of the Lector’s Guild, has taught church school, and been active in leadership of the TOTOS (Trinitarians on the Other Side – ie Vancouver).   In the summer of 2007 Marilynn and Ros both joined the work team to Honduras, and since that time she has chaired the Honduras Scholarship Program.  As a member of the Outreach commission, she was also active in the early formation of the Senior Connect Program.

Tracy_HawthorneTracy Hawthorne

Tracy Hawthorne came to Trinity through the Center for Spiritual Development.  Upon completing Seeking God in the 21st Century, she participated in Catechesis and joined Trinity in 2005.  She was raised in the Congregational church and is a native Portlander.  Tracy has been a member of the Welcome/Newcomer Committee since joining Trinity, served for four years on the Commission on Adult Formation and the Center for Spiritual Development and is a past co-chair of that commission.  She completed EfM in 2010.  Professionally, Tracy is a real estate transaction paralegal and insurance administrator for a large local real estate development firm.  Tracy graduated from Marylhurst University with degrees in Religious Studies and Applied Theology.

MunroDavid Munro

Dave Munro has attended Trinity since childhood. He was baptized, attended Sunday School, and was confirmed at Trinity. His wife, Anne, also was confirmed at Trinity. Their daughters, Laurie and Sally, were baptized, attended Sunday School, and were confirmed at Trinity, and both of them were married at Trinity. Dave is an attorney and practices in Portland. During a 16-year period beginning in 1975, he served as a member of the Trinity Vestry for 12 years, including one year as Junior Warden and nine years as Senior Warden. He also has served as a delegate to several Diocesan Conventions and as a member of several Trinity committees, including the Endowment Committee, the Planned Giving Committee, and the Search Committee involved in the search for a new Dean in 2003. Dave's nonprofit volunteer activities outside of Trinity have included service as a board member and committee member at Oregon Episcopal School, the American Red Cross, Loaves & Fishes Centers, and the Salvation Army.

PothDee Poth

Dee Poth came to Trinity through the Center for Spiritual Development sand became a member in 2005. She is currently on the Adult Formation Commission, is chair of Center programming and a member of the Campaign Planning Committee. She has completed the SG21 3 year course and been on pilgrimage to Ireland and Turkey.  She has hosted a number of Trinity events for special guests of the Cathedral.  Dee is a member of Parallels and has participated in the Sojourners dinner groups.   Before retirement, Dee was a corporate art consultant.   She is active at the Portland Art Museum and serves on the Board of Trustees and on the board of the European and American Art Council.  She has served on the boards of the Portland Opera, Sellwood Harbor Homeowners Association, PSU Walk of the Heroines, Friends of the Gilkey Center, and the Contemporary Art

 

Helen_SudburyHelen Sudbury

Helen Sudbury has attended Trinity for seven years, after moving from Florida with her husband Dennis in 2004. Since joining Trinity, Helen completed EFM in 2010, serves as the coordinator of the acolyte program, is an active member of the Verger’s Guild, co-chair of the Family Ministry Commission, is an active member of the Altar Guild, and a weekly volunteer in the Church office. She started her professional life as a nurse, transitioning to health care administration.  For the past fifteen years Helen has worked as a consultant assisting a broad range of employers with the development and implementation of on-site clinical services.  Trinity Cathedral has been an important part of her life because she feels it has been a place of spiritual enrichment, development, and friendship.

 
Dale_VoellerDale Voeller

Dale Voeller began attending Trinity in December 2005 and immediately fell in love with the beauty, richness, and deep spiritual-connectedness of liturgical worship at Trinity.  He completed Catechesis the following winter and was confirmed on Trinity Sunday 2006.  Dale met his wife, Mary Shibley, at Trinity and they were married there in 2008.  Mary has attended Trinity for over 30 years and participates in many aspects of the spiritual and community life of the parish.  At Trinity, Dale served for three years on the Buildings and Grounds Committee and is currently on a special committee of the History Guild, working to write an illustrated history of Trinity.  Dale works as a project manager for a regional environmental consulting firm where he specializes in identifying and managing hazardous building materials.  In his spare time, Dale is an avid fly-fisherman.

 

WaltersKeith Walters

Since Keith Walters and his partner, Jonathan Tamez, first came to Trinity to hear an organ recital shortly after moving to Portland in fall, 2006, they have found many ways to participate in the life of our congregation. For the past two years, Keith co-chaired the Commission on Adult Formation and the Center for Spiritual Development. He and Jonathan help with meals at Thanksgiving or Easter. Through Parish Community Life, they have participated in Trinity Neighbors, shared rides, and delivered food. They are also part of AFFIRM. Keith is a professor of applied linguistics at Portland State, where he serves as chair of his department and as a member of the Middle Eastern Studies faculty. Over the years, he’s volunteered in public schools, recorded textbooks for the blind and visually impaired, and volunteered at an AIDS hospice.
