Meet, greet and extend a warm welcome to people new to the Cathedral or visiting from out of town or other Parishes. The time commitment is small, but the results of helping new people become acquainted and comfortable at Trinity is heart-warming and fun.

We greet people as they enter the Cathedral prior to the 10:00 a.m. service with a friendly “hello and welcome” and again after service during the coffee hour. Newcomers Welcome Receptions take place the last Sunday of every month (unless noted otherwise) in the Stearns Library from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

January 2018 Newcomers Events

All events are held in the Stearns Library after the 10:00 a.m. service.

Prayer Book 101: What's in the Book and why does it matter?
Sunday, January 7. In the Episcopal Church, our traditions of praying together shape our belief, and also our behavior as people of faith in the world created and loved by God. Join Canon Julia McCray-Goldsmith for a 45-minute dash through the Book of Common Prayer and some of the key practices that define "the Episcopal branch of the Jesus movement," as our current Presiding Bishop has described our church. Everyone is welcome.

Conversation: Outreach Ministries @ Trinity
Sunday, January 14. How do we reach out to our local and international communities with Holy Compassion? Members of the Trinity Outreach team will be on hand to talk about our well established and emerging ministries of care for the vulnerable in our midst. This gathering is useful for those interested in serving in outreach ministries, or those who just want to know about the many ways Trinity makes a difference in Portland. Everyone is welcome.

Tour: The Rosales Organ
Sunday, January 21. Did you know that there are nearly four thousand pipes in the Trinity organ? Come find out where we’re hiding them all and much more on a tour or Trinity’s organ, led by Bruce Neswick and Chris Lynch. Everyone is welcome.
