Trinity Choirs

The Cathedral's choral program consists of four groups: two youth choirs, an adult choir and Chamber Singers.

Adult Choirs
Trinity Choir
The 55-voice Trinity Choir is the resident vocal ensemble at the Cathedral. This choir performs a variety of sacred choral music throughout the year, both in Eucharistic and other liturgical services, as well as performing in the Trinity Consort Series. A recent review in The American Organist applauded the choir's blend, sensitivity to texts, and musical interpretations. The choir has performed for the American Choral Directors Association Regional Conventions, the 1992 National Convention of the Association of Anglican Musicians, the 1995 Regional Convention of The American Guild of Organists, broadcasts over Oregon Public Broadcasting, National Public Radio, and has recorded for Delos International and PGM Recordings.
Cathedral Chamber Singers
The Cathedral Chamber Singers, a professional ensemble of vocalists, is heard frequently during the liturgical year at Trinity Cathedral, singing monthly Vespers and, in addition to the Trinity Choir, performing as the chorus of the Trinity Consort. The members, some of the finest singers in the Portland area, are drawn from a number of college, university and church choirs.

Choristers
The Choristers of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is a children’s choir of singers ranging from first through fifth grade. They provide service music once a month for First Sunday (the Cathedral’s family service), as well as other church festival occasions, including All Saints, the Feast of St. Francis, and Shrove Tuesday. The Choristers also sing for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Eucharist several times throughout the year. During the Advent/Christmas holidays they enjoy caroling, providing service music for the Christmas Eve Family Service with the Coventry Singers. The Choristers also make a guest appearance at the Grotto in northeast Portland as part of the community’s Christmas holiday celebration. Choristers rehearse on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. in the Children’s Chapel, directed by Amy Polo.

Coventry Singers
This ensemble is open to all interested musicians from sixth grade to seniors in high school. All youth are welcome regardless of previous experience. Coventry Singers generally sings monthly for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Eucharist from November to June, sometimes accompanied by the Trinity Choir. The choir also sings for the Christmas Eve Family Service and on Youth Sunday.

Coventry Singers has also had wonderful opportunities beyond our Trinity community to share our leadership and music. In 2006 Coventry Singers sang in the Diocesan Youth Choir at the Diocesan Convention and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Winter Workshop in Sacred Music. At the ACDA workshop, Coventry Singers hosted a session in Sacred Youth Choirs. Both appearances were met with great enthusiasm.

Coventry Singers offers opportunities to grow in singing, music, faith, and friendship. Director, Mia Hall Savage dedicates a good portion of rehearsals to enthusiastically helping young singers to discover how to best use their voices. Coventry Singers rehearses every Sunday of the School Year in the Youth Loft at 9a.m.
