The Trinity Music Program
The Music Program at Trinity Cathedral is diverse, creative and grounded in the unique Anglican heritage of music in the Episcopal Church. Trinity music reflects the variety and scope of our Cathedral liturgies, from the regular Sunday morning Eucharist [link to Sunday Eucharist mention on the Worship Music page] to the quiet Vespers [link to vespers section of worship music page] services and to festival occasions, as well as innovative concerts in the Cathedral or Kempton Hall. Many of these programs, incorporated into the annual Trinity Music Series, have become a staple part of the cultural scene of the greater Portland metropolitan area. In addition to Sunday mornings and other liturgical services, more than 12,000 people annually attend musical events at Trinity Cathedral.

The central mission of the Music Program is to support the regular liturgy of the Cathedral. In addition, we have maintained many liturgical events outside of our primary Eucharist celebrations. These have become a traditional part of the worship life at Trinity, and also reach out to other parishes and the community. They include:

  • Advent Procession of Lessons and Carols
  • A Carol Service prior to the Midnight Christmas Eucharist
  • A Trinity Choir Lenten liturgy
  • Holy Week liturgies, and
  • Vespers services featuring the Cathedral Chamber
The Trinity Music Program is recognized across the country for its depth of repertoire and high standard of performance. The recognition continues to bring talented artists, listeners and worshipers from near and far to experience our musical family and be inspired by its joyful sound. Several choirs serve our liturgies. The Trinity Choir and Cathedral Chamber Singers are adult choirs. Coventry Singers are from grades six through twelve and Choristers are in grades one through five.
Trinity’s pipe organ is a centerpiece of music at the Cathedral. Recognized worldwide as one of America’s finest examples of mechanical-action organs, it is featured in liturgies and recitals, attracting renowned performers from all over the globe.
Trinity Cathedral is also home to the Trinity Consort, an ensemble featuring great choral works accompanied by a period-instrument orchestra. The Pacific Youth Choir [link to Pacific Youth Choir section on Music for the Broader Community page], a multi-level organization of six choirs, with singers from the broader community, is in residence at Trinity.
