Summer Trip Spotlight

The success of this year’s Sauce Off Dinner generated $4,000 income and included wide participation from both youth and adult volunteers. This event has organically bloomed into a Cathedral tradition in just 3 years!  I am grateful for this community effort!  Mary Sicilia received the 2008 Battle of the Spoon and her grandfather, Gianni, was honored. The income raised at the Sauce Off Dinner directly offsets the youth participant costs for both the Honduras Mission Trip and the Middle School Outdoor Summer Trip.

Continuing our offering of a middle school summer trip, the Youth Commission is sponsoring another summer outdoor trip.  We invite you to participate!  Last summer the middle school group enjoyed on a 4-day rafting trip on the Deschutes River.  The youth group learned rafting and rappelling skills while developing the theme of “trust” as a component of faith.  This summer we will extend the outdoor experience into Central Oregon and go rafting, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, swimming, camping and engage in multiple team building exercises.

Over the last 3 years, Trinity’s Youth Commission has built a partnership with the Oregon Episcopal School (OES).  We are proud to announce that the OES Outdoor Program will guide Trinity’s Outdoor Summer Trip, August 10-14.  This trip is specifically designed for Trinity’s Middle School students.

Please review the information contained in the summer trip packet and prayerfully consider applying to be part of the Outdoor Summer Trip.  This trip will promote trust and strong friendships that transcended to individual and group spirituality.  Also, it is an opportunity to experience natural beauty and to learn some new sports.  We are looking for youth who are demonstrate openness to outdoor activities, a readiness to be part of a team, and a willingness to face challenges.

To Apply
To apply, review the attached information packet, complete the Permission Slip form, and turn in a check for $425 by May 18.  Note that due to space limitations we may not be able to accept all applicants.  Priority will be given on a first come basis. You will be notified of the status of your application by May 22.  The trip meeting will be on Sunday, August 3 at 1pm.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the trip leaders.
