About the Event
There is rarely any truth behind the greatness of folk legends. And yet, American folk hero Johnny "Appleseeed" Chapman (1774-1846) truly planted apple trees and established a network of nurseries as he travelled barefoot across rural Ohio and Indiana.
With an equally-generous hand, Johnny spread faith as a self-appointed missionary for the teachings of Christian mystic Emanuel Swedenborg and nurtured rising communities of farmsteaders devoted to the "New Church." In this forum, we explore the theological perspectives that compelled Chapman in his one-man mission to bring a little bit of heaven to the rapidly-expanding United States.
