Join former literature teacher Liz Harlan-Ferlo for a deep dive into this year's Lent Reads book, The Living, Annie Dillard's 1992 novel about the arrival of settlers in the Pacific Northwest. How do we understand the characters' sense of place and of their place in the world? What rings true to us about how Dillard depicts the Northwest—and what doesn't? What can we learn from fiction about our own sacred nature, and that of others? (Hybrid)

The Living can be purchased at many bookstores, and online, and a limited number of copies will be available in the Welcome Center for purchase.

About the leader: Reader and writer Liz Harlan-Ferlo, who serves as Trinity's Canon for Education and the Arts, has been discussing books with friends and family since she started reading as a child. For the last six years, she worked formally as a high school English teacher, helping students to decipher varied works of literature and culture and to connect what the read to the meaning and purpose of their own lives.
