Liz Harlan-Ferlo

Canon for Education & the Arts

About Liz:

Liz grew up in rectories in Pittsburgh and New York City. She is the daughter of a professor-turned-Episcopal priest and a children’s librarian-turned-book artist, so there are lots of books in her life. At Oberlin College, she tried to avoid religion by doing Creative Writing but found herself drawn to studying Hinduism and medieval Islam. An MFA in poetry brought her to Oregon. For ten years, Liz served as a school chaplain at Oregon Episcopal School, gaining extensive and unique practical ministry experience. She has taught adults and children for over 20 years, and specializes in intercultural competency and creative arts.

Liz enjoys salsa music, singing, reading and being read, and going on both imaginary and real adventures with her husband and two children. Her first collection of poetry, Incarnation, Again, was published in 2022.

Arrival at Trinity:

2007. Back pews.

Fun fact:

Liz learned to be a more adventurous eater when she visited 9 countries across 5 continents when she was 12 years old.
