About the Event
Mysticism for Beginners: The Holy Underfoot
In person only; led by Marla Martin Hanley. This popular course is a repeat of our 2022 offering.
Explore the Christian mystical tradition as a living, grounded spirituality – simultaneously ancient and modern, Anglican and ecumenical. Each week, we’ll encounter voices such as Pelagius, Hildegard of Bingen, St. Francis, Meister Eckhart, and Julian of Norwich, encountering a creation-centered vision of Holiness.
Focusing on direct experiences in lieu of precise doctrine, we will consider mysticism's roots in Hebrew and Celtic agrarian cultures and its flowering in medieval Christianity. Join us as we discuss and reflect on how these ancient insights speak to our personal experiences of Holiness.
