About the Event

Join us to learn techniques for safely helping our guests whose behavior may be stressful for our other guests and our volunteers. Kate Gillespie, licensed clinical social worker, will provide training to our food pantry volunteers and anyone who works with or is interested in working with this community, on how to communicate effectively to de-escalate crisis moments. (In person only)

Please RSVP to Outreach@trinity-episcopal.org.

De-escalation training provides an overview of skills and assessment so that front line workers can connect with clients, maintain personal safety, and recognize when someone might need a higher level of care. The training focusses on a client-centered model and believe that each person deserves respect for their process. Our role is to be available to help out where we can, with the least intervention necessary to facilitate a healthy and safe process for everyone.

About the presenter: Kate Gillespie, LCSW, is The Executive Director of Luminescence Counseling and Consulting. She is a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and a training facilitator. Kate’s focus is in supporting women, gender diverse humans, and those identifying within the LGBTQ+ community. With twenty years of experience in the mental health field, Kate has gained knowledge of a diverse array of therapeutic settings and modalities including wilderness therapy, state psychiatric hospital, emergency department, mobile crisis response, and harm reduction at festivals and events. Through traditional and non-traditional practice models Kate has developed her own unique way of meeting people where they are at. She has a mission to inspire people to make lasting changes in their lives and to open their minds to new possibilities and healthier ways of being.
