About the Event

About the Forum: Through photos, sketches, and narrative, Janene Walkky takes us on a journey through the seasons of Liberty Hill Camas Bluff, a rare wildflower meadow in the Pacific Northwest that is currently under threat of destruction from a mining project. She accompanies her presentation with slides of exquisite photos of the meadow and its individual plants. In-person only.

About the presenter: Artist Janene Walkky seeks to heighten awareness of the fragility and beauty of the natural world through her paintings, particularly plants native to the Pacific Northwest where she lives. She uses watercolor to achieve the clear, bright tones of nature. One of her favorite surfaces to paint on is calfskin vellum, which has been used by artists since before the Renaissance, and results in glowing, organic-looking paintings.  She graduated from Great Britain's Society of Botanical Art diploma program with distinction in 2003. Since then, her work has been in regional, national, and international shows.
