At IU, his primary organ instructor was Dr. Janette Fishell, and he also studied organ and church music with Dr. Marilyn Keiser and Dr. Jeffrey Smith. Nicholas has won numerous awards in organ performance including first prize in the 2019 Southeast Regional Competition for Young Organists, and second prize at the 2022 Arthur Poister National Organ Competition.
