About the Organist: Nicholas Stigall, Trinity Cathedral's Organ Scholar, is a native of Knoxville, TN and a 2023 graduate from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music with a major in organ performance and a minor in German. During his time at IU, he served as Organ Scholar and Music Intern at Trinity Episcopal Church, Bloomington, and spent his summers at the Chautauqua Institute, assisting Joshua Stafford, as the insitute's Organ Scholar. While at Chautauqua, Nicholas played a number of solo recitals and services on their historic, Massey organ in the 5,000-seat Chautauqua Amphitheater.
Nicholas began studying the organ at age 15 with Dr. Edie Johnson in Knoxville. At IU, his primary organ instructor was Dr. Janette Fishell, and he also studied organ and church music with Dr. Marilyn Keiser and Dr. Jeffrey Smith. Nicholas has won numerous awards in organ performance including first prize in the 2019 Southeast Regional Competition for Young Organists, and second prize at the 2022 Arthur Poister National Organ Competition.
Nicholas has been an active member of the Bloomington AGO chapter, where he has served as Dean and was featured as a Rising Star Performer at the 2020 American Guild of Organists National Convention. Most recently, he was recognized as a “20 under 30” for the 2023 class in the Diapason magazine. Outside of music, Nicholas likes to keep active by walking in nature or taking Pure Barre classes.
