About the Event
Wandering Joy: Meister Eckhart’s Wayless Way
Led by Marla Hanley and Karen Luper.
In a climate of political struggle between papacy and monarchy, the ferment of breakaway sects and widespread social breakdown, 14th-century German mystic Meister Eckhart's preaching and teaching stretched the boundaries of late Medieval language and theology.
A theologian and beloved teacher, Eckhart was an integral figure in the flowering of medieval Rhineland mysticism and a spiritual director to countless Dominican religious orders of both men and women, including Beguines. His enduring wisdom continues to offer us guidance along a "way-less and why-less" spiritual path.
In this three-session class, we will examine some basic tenets of Eckhart’s thought: letting go (“detachment”) and breaking through (“the birth of the Word in the Soul”) into an awakened vision of Oneness.
