About the Mini-Retreat: Cultivating interior silence is the foundation of many contemplative practices, in both the West and the East. We practice gently letting go of external tumult, thoughts, and concerns and enter our “inner room,” as described in Matthew 6:6. Buddhists call this place of pure silence “empty mind.” Here we may begin to glimpse the undivided nature of Reality and the mystery of God.
As we journey through Lent, join us as the Rev'd Chris Bell leads us in silent sitting meditation – with a little more silence and a little less talking than in previous mini-retreats. Brief instructions will be included for those new to sitting meditation. In person only.
About the presenter: The Rev’d Chris Bell is a long-time practitioner of Zen and was recently named Zen Teacher in the Harada-Yasutani lineage. After graduating from Harvard Divinity School, Chris served a Unitarian-Universalist congregation in Santa Rosa, California, for 15 years, and he currently serves as the chaplain for VistaRiver Hospice in the Portland area.
