About the class: Explore the history, poetry, and music of Christmas carols old and new, especially the famous settings by Rutter and Britten, in anticipation of the world premiere of Maggie Burk's, This Holy Hour: A Sequence of Carols for Christmas. Our last session will be a carol sing-a-long with commentary.
About the instructors: Ward Nelson sings in the Trinity Choir. He is partial to "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" because of its theology; however, it has to be played correctly, which is to say, with dignity, with lots of organ, and not too fast. Canon Liz Harlan-Ferlo is always ready to drop to the alto line. Her favorite carol is "In the Bleak Midwinter."Â
