About the class: (In person only; Led by Scott Smiley) Ten years ago, former Cathedral Dean Bill Lupfer introduced the idea of “Theological Worlds” to Trinity – five different types of faith that express distinct and coherent worldviews. In this class, we will discover which World each of us stands in, and we'll explore how each World understands God, Jesus, the human condition, and the self. This will be an opportunity for self-reflection and better understanding of one another’s perspectives.
About the Instructor: Scott Smiley has been at Trinity since 2003 and is a member of the Spiritual Formation Commission. He has facilitated numerous classes and discussion groups at the cathedral in the last decade, including “What Is God?,” “Hermeneutics and the Theological Worlds,” “The Hidden Gospel, the Eternal Soul, and Ancient Ways of Being,” and “The Imagination and the Soul.” The background he brings to theological worldviews includes Ph.D. research in poetics, ways of knowing, and the philosophical approach of phenomenology. Scott’s general approach in his classes is reflection, gentle discussion, and, hopefully, self-discovery.
